About ExpatDesk
ExpatDesk is a relocation paperwork guide that puts the admin of moving to Portugal in dependency order. It covers the NIF, bank account, proof of address, visa and AIMA permit or CRUE, NISS, SNS registration, tax residency and the IFICI deadline, and it shows which step each one depends on.
Who it helps
Anyone in the middle of a move to Portugal, EU or non-EU, employed, self-employed, remote or retired. If you have a stack of forms and no idea which one comes first, this site is for you.
Editorial approach
We write in plain English, lead with facts and say where things go wrong as well as where they go right. The checklist builder uses only the rules described on the homepage. It does not guess processing times or costs we cannot verify.
How facts are checked and dated
We check facts against official Portuguese sources first: Portal das Finanças, AIMA, Segurança Social, SNS, IMT, ePortugal and the Diário da República. Where we rely on a secondary source, we name it in the Sources list. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. Portuguese rules change often, so always confirm with the official source before you act.
